How much time should we spend at Schonbrunn to at least see and appreciate the palace and its surrounding grounds?
Vienna (or Salzburg) to Zurich - fly or train. We're just planning on getting the Classic Pass at Schonbrunn which includes: I have no idea if that together should take up the full day or if we can try to combine it with other sights that take up maybe a third or so of a dy. You could also spend an entire day at Schonbrunn Palace, taking time to visit the zoo, take a thorough tour of the gardens, and have a leisurely lunch at the cafe. You can still get up to the bottom of Gloriettewhere you can get a good enough view, IMO. Read more I think half a day or a little bit more should be fine to visit the palace and the park including the additional sights of the combination ticket. I very much recommend the trip to Wachau.

As stated, of its 1441 rooms, 40 are available to the public. If arriving via the UBahn lne U-4 from the city center a tip - do not exit at the Schönbrunn stop , continue 1 more stop to Hietzing- walking across the street and in a short 3 minutes you are to 1 of the entrances to Schönbrunn Park. Thanks for all your replies, everyone! Be prepared to walk quite a bit in the park and go at a day with nice weather possibly. These are just my intuitive/gut instincts. Just wanted to report back (rather belatedly) that we we ended up spending about 6 hours at Schonbrunn, including lunch at the restaurant in the gloriette, at a very comfortable pace, and then spent a few hours at the Belvedere, which isn't huge, so we felt that we had enough time to enjoy the artwork, architecture and gardens there.
Thanks! angra311, is there a particular reason why you wouldn't recommend combining Schonbrunn and Belvedere on the same day? Vienna Boys Choir- starts late September .
I also agree with Norman - half a day for Schönbrunn should be sufficient, around 3-4 hours, and you could do the Belvedere the same day.
Then we spent 2 hours in the garden - including the privy garden, up the gloriette, and the maze/labyrinth. Visiting Schonbrunn Palace Schonbrunn Palace and the Crown Prince Gardens. I concur with the others that the strudel show can be skipped. he like nothing better than playing with a chain saw!! There is a lot to see, but your interests and desire to spend money may not extend to all of it. A visit to Schönbrunn requires a half day or more depending on your interests. don't miss the summer palace its behind the Palace and if you can go during Christmas they have amazing Christmas market. Just because they're both palaces, or because of all the walking, etc.? You can breeze through these in an hour and a half due to the vast size of the Schonbrunn estate, or take your time between two and a half to three hours more. I'd prefer not to rush (ta && ta.queueForLoad ? If it was me and that's what it took to do the Melk/Danube/Krems thing, I'd do it. Just the palace tour was enough and wander through the free gardens. Arriving early in the morning just after the opening usually means avoiding many of the frequent bus tours and thus fewer people in the palace- then later doing the gardens. Is there any provision for... We want to purchase tickets in advance but only see an option for Adults and Children 6+. A train or carrige ride through the gardens if you are tired makes for a ood alternative. Also check for the evening offerings of fine operettas.These are presented in the former private royal theater in the Palace complex. I have limited mobility and can only walk short distances with a cane. Worth it. You're only allowed in at your allocated time so you may want to do the outside first if you are on a late tour or vice versa if you on an earlier one. Thanks for all your replies, everyone! This area of the park very well laid out with flowers and many roses . Beautiful Palace outside Vienna need at least 3 - 4 hours or a half day trip. And the Belvedere gardens are not that extensive either, a walk up- or downhill, so that won´t take up too much of your time. These are just my intuitive/gut instincts.
