It blew me away how when V came out, all the reviewers and players alike were hyping up the map size, like "zomg it's 5x bigger than the previous maps!
Almost all of Twitch and even more and more big names such as Markiplier are playing on the servers for their sheer amount of content. The Los Santos part is legit. Whatever R* said. a lot of people dislike Watch Dogs 2 but imo it has a much better map. Sorry no map for you, but at least it's a conceptual comparison. The only example I could give is looking at the Red Dead series and how the federal government is cracking down on lawlessness and outlaws in order to make the land more civilized. Yes I used to thought GTA III's Liberty City was huge too, but now I see how it is small. When GTA IV came out I was a bit dissapointed at the smaller map size but it was, nevertheless, a great game. The fact you went from three unique islands in IV to just one boring flat city in V was a detriment imo. -You can catch a thief that stole someone's wallet. Almost everywhere in V was either boring, felt the same as most other areas, or was just empty space for filler. We'd spend so much time in the airport fuckin around. Sure, you might find a weapon or rare vehicle spawn in a few places, but there's a lot of forest and desert area where damn near nothing happens. The south side of the island is the most industrial side of LC ( Trenton, Atlantic Quay, Portland Harbor and Acter Industrial Park) and a prison is present in both islands (not shown in GTA III but in the opening scene Claude is sent to prison in a police truck and he is heading towards Portland, and there is Alderney State Correctional Facility), and the only strip clubs in LC are in the east side of both islands ( Red Light District and the Honks! i actually couldn't go back to GTA V after playing it. I much prefer V's map but I really feel IV captured the feel of each NY burrough perfectly. most people fail to realize from the ign interview to take those things into account. your eye is always catched up by something to watch at. I remember getting gta IV from my older cousin a couple months after it came out because he was getting a PS3. Quickly googled gta 5 map (thinking it would be on front page for sure) and couldn't find shit. And even if it were not: it seems like the map of 4 is a fair tad more zoomed out, if you asked me. The gameplay and graphics are overall clearly improved in V (although the physics were dumbed down) but since I care a lot about the story, I prefer GTA IV, -Story makes more sense and it's overall better. you can't go inside buildings, the world feels so static, and the pedestrians feel like robots repeating a few lines over and over again. I think the GTA 5 world is filled to the brim with new exciting opportunities, a world that actually feels alive (freaking animals dude) and it is much easier to just chill and take in the atmosphere opposed to the bleached out feel of GTA 4. Yeah, GTA IV's Liberty City is Massive when comparing it to GTA III's Liberty City. Final verdict: GTA IV has better story, better psychics and some nice small features, which makes the game great.

I believe there will be a dozen or so towns and small cities some perhaps as large as Bohan in GTA 4.

I drove from one side of the map to the other in GTA 4 and it took me like 8 minutes mainly cause of traffic which im expecting here. New York City is smaller than LA and the main suburbs (Beverly Hills, Compton, whatever). I played that bad boy every week until gta v came out. The problem with V's map for me is it feels so empty despite being so massive. With a map as big as GTA 5 you cant just have extensive desert and forests you need interaction with people. Anyway, GTA III's Liberty City is my favorite city in GTA Series. You must not have heard about the roleplay servers that are an absolute must.
