Apparently it was a private party but if you read other reviews or scan the place and note so called party attendees scattered without interacting with eachother... smell the BS. Avoid it in the meantime. They have a no picture policy which makes sense given it's a restaurant and these people are trying to eat. A very simple menu but everything we ate was delicious.

Borchardt is a nice German-French restaurant with an impressively eclectic and understated European crowd. I didn't like any of the items I ordered. Every time the door was opened we got hit by a blast of cold air. The general staff are stressed, bored and really want you to not be there (especially when you want your coat and all of the worst incapacity of Berlin staff comes out as they can't manage a coat stand or a queue).

Food was outstanding. I told him we preferred a lightly sweet wine, not the dry, the Germans seem to prefer. Unsere Royals liebten das borchardt ebenso wie Banker, Industrielle und Weltreisende.
We had a reservation and were easily and quickly seated. The Kenya green beans and the tiny tomato salad with an amazing sauce was Devine!! Lol. We were warmly greeted as we entered, fortunately we had a reservation which made us a 'known' entity, we were seated at a nice little table in the back, our table...was expanded to become two tables once we ordered lots of food and drink, our waiter was totally switched-on and helpful, the food was extremely well-prepared and presented, we sipped champagne and drank a German-grown sauvignon blanc with our meal, and we were happy as can be at the end of our meal--prost! It was a very cold and blustery night (about 15° F) with light snow. Miserable and rude dining experience. We then waited another hour for the wine we had ordered. Fortunately, there was a lovely German couple next to us who insisted the staff close the door to keep the cold out. Stay away. I'm on a diet so I went with a pork chop, vegetables and salad. To be honest I rarely ever go to places like this but, decided we would give it a try. It's a nice enough place but I have no desire to be seen or to spot celebrities :-).

The atmosphere is very chic, cool and local - you can spot a dressed up Berliner having dinner solo and enjoying the great cuisine, just as fully tattooed dudes indulging themselves with some tasty drinks.
