Modern high-speed trains can run at speeds exceeding 250 mph or 400 km/h. waiting bus from the station to the west coast of Thailand. The train was old and not very clean but the staff was very helpfull. Everything worked just fine!there were also snacks and water provided! Taking a train to get from Bangkok to Surat Thani is a safe, fast, and scenic option to travel the country.

Surat Thani Railway Station is not in Surat Thani town, its about 15 km away in the neighbouring town of Phunphin. The bathroom was kind of smelly and the toilet opened to the train tracks itself... can you say health hazard.... the staff were friendly enough. The beads are comfy, and at least I was able to sleep well. During high season, train tickets sell out quickly – do book as early as you can. Wasn’t the train I was shown the lower berth was a lot smaller and extremely hard to sleep with a child unlike the other train we usually get.

However, if you take the day time service you need to spend 1 night in Surat Thani before travelling onward to any of the islands as you will be too late to catch any ferries except the night boat to Koh Phangan. I took a 2nd class sleeper bed and it was amazing!
